Looking for a fun domestic family destination? Nantucket! You can easily fly directly to the island or drive/take the ferry. There are plenty of family friendly things to do, but it’s also a fun spot for mom and dad:
- Rent bikes – And get a trailer that can fit the kiddos and beach supplies. Relax, it’s not exhausting! The island is super bike friendly and the carrier is not heavy—says the guy who has never actually pulled it…my wife volunteers. Bikes also give you flexibility during your trip without having to deal with taking a car onto the island.
- Bike to Jetties Beach – While Children’s Beach is the most family friendly “beach” (it’s a harbor beach, but features a playground and grassy area that make it versatile), Jetties ranks right behind, but is more lively and therefore more entertaining for mom and dad. Be sure to grab snacks/drinks at one of Sandbar Jetties Beach picnic tables in the sand!
- Bike to Surfside or Cisco Beach – A further distance from town and the surf is larger, but these beaches are more remote and therefore less crowded.
- Bike to Cisco Brewers – Yes, a brewery is absolutely family friendly! There’s a huge open air courtyard surrounded by their brewery and distillery, so it appeals to most drink preferences! Plus, they almost always have live music (which my son loves) and rotating food trucks.
- Take your kids with you for after dinner drinks – I’m not talking ripping shots around your kids—but bring the stroller and have the kiddos relax/sleep while you enjoy a post-dinner drink.
I could go on forever! More to Nantucket tips to follow!
