Paradise Found: A Family Adventure in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos

The tropical paradise of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos is perfectly convenient family getaway. There are countless reasons that this destination consistently appears on top family vacation lists—direct flights from many major US airports, relative close location to the US mainland, resorts conveniently located to the airport…I could go on and on, but most importantly the beautiful white powder sand beaches, calm waters and friendly people make it a perfect fit.

Resorts can be pricey during the peak seasons (i.e. winter months), but the heat during the summer months remains manageable, so take advantage of the cheaper prices and make Providenciales a summer destination! We’ve previously stayed at Beaches, which is all-inclusive and provides plenty of family friendly activities. The food is decent—some meals are great, while others are so-so—but the key is that there are TONS of restaurant options to choose from, so you’re easily able to appeal to all members of your party.

In addition to Beaches, we’ve also stayed at the Grace Bay Club (not all-inclusive, but a really high-quality complimentary buffet breakfast is provided), which we loved. Staying at a non-all-inclusive hotel enables you to sample some of the incredible restaurants and explore the island a bit more, which we highly recommend! Continue reading for recommendations on what to do when you visit Turks and Caicos!

1. Grace Bay Beach:

Stay on or just visit the legendary Grace Bay Beach—it’s the real deal, folks. The water is the clearest that I’ve ever seen, and the sand is softer than my kids’ relentless negotiation tactics for more ice cream. Spend the day laying while your kids build sandcastles and play in the super calm shore break. Pro tip: bring a bucket, some shovels, and a willingness to embrace your inner child.

2. Snorkeling trip:

Plenty of half-day trips to the Turks and Caicos Barrier Reef can be arranged through one of the many charter companies. The reef is stunning—and if your kids aren’t able to join in the snorkeling, the charter team does a great job of keeping the vibes high on the boat while you and your significant other can take turns channeling your inner Jacques Cousteau. If your kids can swim—then prepare for them to have their minds blown by seeing vibrant fish darting around the coral, and maybe even a sea turtle! Remember to bring an underwater camera for those “look, Mom, I’m swimming with Nemo!” moments.

3. Chalk Sound National Park:

Chalk Sound is a breathtaking turquoise lagoon that looks like it’s straight off of a postcard. You can rent kayaks and paddle boards where you’ll feel like explorers in a sea of blue Gatorade. The water is shallow and calm, making it perfect for families.

4. Da Conch Shack: Dining with Toes in the Sand

After all that paddling, you’ll be ready for some grub. Enter Da Conch Shack, a beachside restaurant where you can enjoy fresh seafood with your toes in the sand. The conch fritters will be a hit, and the kids will love the fish fingers (which you can reassure them are not actually fingers). There’s live music and a relaxed vibe that makes you forget any worries.

5. Dining galore:

As I mentioned, Providenciales is home to a TON of incredible restaurants. Aside from Da Conch Shack, which is vibe city a few other places to try include: Coco Bistro (fantastic vibes for a non-beach front restaurant), Infiniti Restaurant and Raw Bar (located in the Grace Bay Club), Omar’s Beach Hut (similar to Da Conch Shack, but on the southern side of the island), Mango Reef Restaurant (located in Turtle Cove)

6. Do a brewery tour:

Turks Head Brewery provides short tours of their brewery and tasting room. These beers are available at any establishment on the island and are top-notch! It’s conveniently located in the center of the island, so the tour can be a nice break from the sun for the family!

There you have it, folks! Providenciales in a nutshell – or should I say, a conch shell?
